Privacy and analytics
Effective date: 21 October 2026
Who operates this site
This is the personal academic website of Miguel Del Valle, economist, based in Santiago, Chile. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to mdelvalle@fen.uchile.cl.
Data handled when you visit
- Hosting and security. The site is hosted by GitHub Pages. GitHub states that it logs visitors’ IP addresses for security purposes, whether or not a visitor is signed in. See the GitHub Privacy Statement and GitHub Pages documentation.
- Domain name. The domain is registered with Cloudflare, and Cloudflare answers the DNS lookups that translate the site’s address. Page traffic itself goes directly to GitHub Pages, not through Cloudflare.
- Visit statistics. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. A small script loaded from Cloudflare reports the page visited, the referring site, approximate country, browser, operating system, device type, and page-load performance. Cloudflare states that Web Analytics does not use cookies or other client-side storage, does not fingerprint visitors through their IP address, user agent, or other data, and does not log query strings. As with any request, your browser’s connection to Cloudflare’s servers is visible to Cloudflare while the script loads and reports.
- Your preferences. The site stores only your light or dark theme choice locally in your browser. It is not sent to the site owner.
The site has no account registration, checkout, newsletter, comment system, advertising, or web contact form. If you use an email link, your message is handled by your chosen email provider and the recipient’s email provider, not by this website. The address, content, and metadata of an email are used only to read and respond to the message and are kept only while needed for that exchange, an ongoing academic relationship, or a legitimate record-keeping or legal purpose. They are not added to a marketing list.
Purposes
Hosting data is handled to deliver and secure the site. Visit statistics are used only in aggregate, to understand readership and improve the site; they do not identify individual visitors and place nothing on your device, so the site does not display a consent banner. The site does not sell personal data and does not use visit statistics for advertising.
Until 21 October 2026 the site offered optional Google Analytics, loaded only after a visitor accepted it. It is no longer loaded. If you accepted it before that date, its cookies on this site expire within 90 days, and you can delete them at any time in your browser settings.
Providers, transfers, and retention
GitHub and Cloudflare are service providers headquartered outside Chile and may process data in other countries under their own terms and safeguards. Their exact processing locations, subprocessors, and transfer mechanisms are governed by their current service and data-processing terms; those terms require periodic review by the site owner. Cloudflare keeps detailed Web Analytics data for seven days and aggregated data thereafter, and the site owner can view up to six months of aggregated statistics. The theme preference stays in your browser until you clear site data.
Security and data minimisation
The site uses static hosting and has no application database or form endpoint. Fonts are hosted locally, the site sets no cookies, and visit statistics are limited to aggregate page-view measurement. Access to the hosting, domain, and analytics accounts is controlled by those providers’ account-security mechanisms. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your rights
Depending on the law applicable to you, you may have rights to request information about personal data, correction, deletion or cancellation, blocking, objection, or portability. To make a request concerning data controlled by this site owner, email mdelvalle@fen.uchile.cl. Requests relating to GitHub or Cloudflare processing may also need to be directed to those providers.
Changes
This notice will be updated if the site’s data practices or applicable requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
